Work through the wiki page on C1 INDICES AND SURDS. Make sure that you watch the videos, especially the one on past WJEC questions on surds.
Complete TASK 1 INDICES AND SURDS.
TASK 2
Go to the Wiki page on C1 QUADRATICS, COMPLETING THE SQUARE.
First you will need to familiarise yourself with all the Higher GCSE skills on QUADRATICS. You can do this with the help of QUADRATICS, WARWICK UNIVERSITY MATHSFIT. Print or download anything you need, watch the videos on Math Fit and work with the Interactive Questions.
Next focus on COMPLETING THE SQUARE.
This is an A level skill with various "APPLICATIONS". Before you complete TASK 2 you will need to know how to
- Complete the square in simple cases (coefficient of x squared is 1)
- Complete the square when the coefficient of x squared is not 1 or is NEGATIVE.
- Solve QUADRATIC EQUATIONS by Completing the Square.
- Find the MAX or MIN values of a QUADRATIC by completing the square.
- Solve problems which require any of the above skills combined.
THIS IS THE WRITTEN PART OF THE TASK FOR HANDING IN FOR MARKING (Or you can email solutions if you like!)
TASK 3
COORDINATE GEOMETRY OF THE LINE
Go to the wiki page on C1 Coordinate geometry of the line.
Watch the two videos on past paper questions and review thye facts about lengths of lines, gradients, midpoints and equations of lines.
COMPLETE THE PAST PAPER PRACTICE WORKSHEET and hand it in to Mr Harriman.
TASK 4
ROOTS OF QUADRATICS AND THE DISCRIMINANT.
This includes the skill of solving QUADRATIC INEQUALITIES. When you have worked through the wiki page and studied this section you should complete PAST PAPER QUESTIONS ON THE DISCRIMINANT.
